Linda LaVerne Richardson Memorial

In 2008 Mrs. Richardson was instrumental in spearheading the formation of the Minority Business Services Division of the Jacksonville•Onslow Chamber of Commerce.  As a result of her tireless efforts to ensure the success of the program, she gathered a committee of business volunteers to work alongside as she guided their hard work to reach maximum potential.  Her vision still lives on in this committee as they carry out the daily activities and functions to pursue the continued successes she so fervently initiated.  The most noted events coordinated by the Minority Business Services Division are the Minority Business Roundtables and MED Day Celebration, which are annual events held at the Chamber.

Linda LaVerne Richardson dedicated 32 years of her life to public service, beginning her federal career in 1968 while in the 12th grade of high school, working half days at the Office of Economic Opportunity and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.  Prior to her tenure with the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Minority Development Agency (MBDA)  (which began in 1989 to her retirement in March 2004), Mrs. Richardson was employed at the U.S. Departments Justice and The Treasury; the D.C. government’s Office of the Mayor, and at the U.S. Department of Commerce, with the bureau of Economic Analysis and the Office of the Secretary, her extensive interaction with agencies of the public sectors, her public affairs, journalism, and media coordination expertise, positively impacted the Nation’s minority business community.
